Softball Recap: Byrd Takes a Loss

The home team had won the previous three meetings between Byrd and Haughton, and Haughton kept the tradition alive. The Byrd Yellow Jackets came up short against the Haughton Buccaneers on Thursday, falling 20-4. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Yellow Jackets of the 15-0 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in March of 2024.

Byrd has also traveled a rocky road recently, having lost seven of their last nine matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-9 record this season. That patch can't be blamed on the team's hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.6 runs over those games. The win was the third in a row for Haughton, bringing their record for this year to 9-9.

Looking ahead, Byrd will be playing in front of their home fans against Parkway at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Haughton, they will take on Iowa in a tournament on Friday. Iowa knows how to get runs on the board -- the team has finished with ten runs or more in their past six games -- so hopefully Haughton likes a good challenge.
