The Southern Maryland Christian Academy Mustangs are taking a road trip to square off against the Jackson-Reed Tigers at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the two teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Southern Maryland Christian Academy not only won on Thursday, but they posted their biggest win since April 9, 2024. They put the hurt on Rockbridge Academy with a sharp 10-1 victory.
Marcus Blaqman made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Blaqman was also big at the plate, scoring two runs while going 4-for-4.

In other pitching news, Southern Maryland Christian Academy got a great performance from Elijah Gheen as he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out seven over 4.2 innings pitched. That's the most strikeouts Gheen has posted since back in April of 2024.
Back at the plate, Caden Cary and Mark Williams Jr did most of the damage at the plate: Cary scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-5, while Williams Jr went 1-for-3 with one triple, one stolen base, and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Malcolm Blaqman, who scored two runs and stole two bases while going 1-for-4.
Southern Maryland Christian Academy was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .387. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Rockbridge Academy only posted a batting average of .043.
Meanwhile, Jackson-Reed had already won two in a row and they went ahead and made it three on Friday. Everything went their way against the Panthers as they made off with a 25-3 win. The Tigers' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.
Rowan Hopson was a standout: he scored four runs and stole two bases while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances. He also hit a double, marking his first of the season. Gabriel Bentancourt was another key player, scoring four runs and stealing two bases while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances.
The victory got Southern Maryland Christian Academy back to even at 1-1. As for Jackson-Reed, their record is now 5-2.
