Baseball Recap: Arthur-Lovington/Atwood-Hammond Has No Trouble Against Cerro Gordo/Bement

Arthur-Lovington/Atwood-Hammond had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the 14-run drubbing they dealt Cerro Gordo/Bement on Thursday. The Knights were the clear victors by a 17-3 margin over the Broncos. The Knights have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Broncos, too.

Maxton Boddy made a splash no matter where he played. He tossed three innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off five hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive appearances. He was even better at the plate, getting on base in all five of his plate appearances with four runs, three RBI, and one stolen base. Those four runs gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, Arthur-Lovington/Atwood-Hammond let Marcus Otto and Will Hilligoss run wild. Otto went 3-for-4 with one home run, four runs, and two RBI, while Hilligoss went 2-for-5 with one home run and seven RBI. Otto is becoming a predictor of Arthur-Lovington/Atwood-Hammond's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 4-10 when he doesn't). Logan Schrock was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.

Arthur-Lovington/Atwood-Hammond always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .548. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Cerro Gordo/Bement only posted an OBP of .406.

Arthur-Lovington/Atwood-Hammond pushed their record up to 13-10 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road. Those road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.0 runs over those games. As for Cerro Gordo/Bement, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 4-15.

Coming up, Arthur-Lovington/Atwood-Hammond will host Iroquois West at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. The Knights' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Raiders have averaged an impressive 6.2 runs per game this season. Cerro Gordo/Bement does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
