The Durango Demons posted their closest win yet this season on Tuesday. They skirted past Bloomfield 35-32. The win was all the more spectacular given Durango's disadvantage in MaxPreps's basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 90th in Colorado, while Bloomfield is ranked 12th in New Mexico).
Durango can attribute much of their success to Lilly Fitzpatrick, who scored 11 points along with three steals. Fitzpatrick continues to roll, besting her previous point total in each of the last four games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Ellie White, who scored five points along with five rebounds and four steals.
When it comes to explaining why Bloomfield lost, one person who can't be blamed is Aliya Quintana. Despite the final result, she dropped a double-double on 11 points and 11 rebounds. Quintana is absolutely dominating the rebound category: she's posted at least eight every time she's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Danielle Johnson, who scored 11 points along with eight rebounds.
The victory got Durango back to even at 5-5. As for Bloomfield, their defeat ended a five-game streak of away wins and brought them to 9-1.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Durango will stay at home for another game and welcome Battle Mountain at 6:00 p.m. on January 12th. Bloomfield will take on Navajo Prep at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday.
