Jackson Academy and Madison Ridgeland Academy played the most hotly contested game in MAIS AAA I District 1 this week, with Jackson Academy eventually emerging with a 14-13 victory.
The Patriots' offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Caleb Shufelt threw for 78 yards and Zach McCraw had 23 yards receiving. On the ground Zack Everhart chipped in 52 yards. Will Trammell helped Madison Ridgeland Academy's passing attack out by catching four balls for 22 yards.
Madison Ridgeland Academy's Shufelt and Trammell have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. Shufelt has thrown for 1471 yards this season, while Trammell has 47 catches for 837 yards. Nick Guy from the Raiders leads the league in rushing with 1011 yards.
Jackson Academy's Duncan Maxwell needs only 45 yards against Presbyterian Christian next week to surpass 1,000 rushing yards for the season. In 78 carries Maxwell has accumulated 955 yard this year.
David Skyes' team made the biggest jump in the national rankings this week, rising to 650 from 769. The improvement was the result of 14-13 victory over Forrest Williams' team last week.
