1A Region 2 recap September 24, 2013
Carnez Gant of Kennedy ran for the longest rushing play in 1A Region 2 this season against Brooks last week. Gant scampered for 92 yards on the play and finished with 248 on the day as his team bested the Tigers.
Kentrell Luckett and Cornelius Ware provided fans with a highlight when they connected against St. Aloysius. The longest such play in the league this season, the connection resulted in 76 yards.
Gant was the best running back in the league this week. Xavier Roberts also contributed to the rushing game with 82 yards on the ground.
Ware was the best receiver in 1A Region 2 this week as Durant fell to the Flashes.
Gant was a passing and rushing force as Kennedy bested Brooks.
Connor Smith put up the best numbers through the air as St. Aloysius defeated the Tigers. He finished with 7 completions for 105 yards. Smith's favorite target this week was DeMichael Harris, who caught 2 passes for 52 yards.
Gant was a force in the backfield as Sheldon Hodge's team bested Corey Grayson's team.
St. Joseph's Devonte Mcpherson and Demanuel Bailey have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. Mcpherson has thrown for 737 yards this season, while Bailey, a 5-foot-8 receiver, has 14 catches for 367 yards. Bobby Smithhart's team's Smith leads the league in rushing yards with 425.
At the moment, the Flashes are in third, while Broad Street is in second.
St. Aloysius scaled the state rankings by moving to 183 from 217 this week, the biggest jump in the league. The Flashes climbed the ranks as a result of beating Durant 34-8.
