Azle Christian has enjoyed a three-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will take on The Prestonwood Christian North at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Last Friday, Azle Christian got themselves on the board against Texoma Christian, but Texoma Christian never followed suit. They claimed a resounding 45-0 victory over the Eagles at home. The score at the end of the third wound up being the final score as Azle Christian just coasted through the last quarter.
Andy Wisniewski looked great while leading his team to the win, throwing for 120 yards and three touchdowns, while also picking up 38 receiving yards. A.J. Rollins also deserves a shout-out for his two touchdowns.
Meanwhile, Prestonwood Christian North had already won four in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 44.3 points), and they went ahead and made it five on Friday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Bethesda Christian 48-0 at home. Given Prestonwood Christian North's advantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 70th, while Bethesda Christian is ranked 231st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Prestonwood Christian North to victory, but perhaps none more so than Hayden Wood, who rushed for 53 yards and a touchdown on only five carries, and also threw for 75 yards and a touchdown while completing 77.8% of his passes. The team also got some help courtesy of Reid Thornberry, who rushed for 53 yards and a touchdown.
Azle Christian has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six contests, which provided a nice bump to their 7-2 record this season. As for Prestonwood Christian North, their victory was their fifth straight at home, bumping their overall record up to 6-1.
Friday's game might be decided on the ground as these two are both standouts in the run game. Azle Christian has been excellent on the ground this season, having averaged 165.4 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Prestonwood Christian North struggles in that department as they've been averaging 154.7 per game. It's looking like Friday's match might have some serious battles in the trenches.
Everything came up roses for Azle Christian against Prestonwood Christian North in their previous meeting back in October of 2022 as the squad secured a 64-18 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for Azle Christian since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
