The Monroe-Woodbury Crusaders put another one in the bag on Monday to keep their perfect season alive. They walked away with a 68-58 victory over Newburgh Free Academy. Given Monroe-Woodbury's advantage in MaxPreps' New York basketball rankings (they are ranked tenth, while Newburgh Free Academy is ranked 199th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Monroe-Woodbury's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Christopher Pearson, who dropped a double-double on 26 points and ten rebounds. That makes it four consecutive games in which Pearson has scored at least 25% of Monroe-Woodbury's points. Kyle McDermott was another key contributor, dropping a double-double on 18 points and 19 rebounds.
Monroe-Woodbury's win was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 10-0. As for Newburgh Free Academy, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-3.
Monroe-Woodbury will look to defend their home court on Thursday against Kingston at 6:30 p.m. As for Newburgh Free Academy, they will head out on the road to face off against North Rockland at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday.
