The Alma Panthers will square off against the Chesaning Indians at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.
Alma is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. Their pitcher stepped up to hand Bridgeport a 14-0 shutout on Tuesday. The victory continues a trend for the Panthers in their matchups with the Bearcats: they've now won three in a row.
Vicente Rodriguez was a standout: he went 2-for-3 with three RBI, one run, and one double. Those three RBI gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Treyshon Ogelsby, who got on base in two of his three plate appearances with three runs and one RBI.
Alma always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .667. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their OBP total in five consecutive games.
Meanwhile, Chesaning got the win against Saginaw Arts & Sciences Academy on Tuesday by a conclusive 20-1. With that win, the Indians brought their scoring average up to 6.8 runs per game.
Logan Vogelaar made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over two innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit (and not a single walk). Chesaning is 2-1 when Vogelaar allows two or fewer hits, but 1-7 otherwise. Vogelaar was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 2-for-2 with three runs, one triple, and one stolen base.
In other batting news, Chesaning got a massive performance out of Andrew Reiber, who went 3-for-4 with two triples, five RBI, and three runs. Those triples marked the first that Reiber has hit this season. Jacob Zyrowski was another key player, going a perfect 2-for-2 with four stolen bases, three runs, and one triple.
Alma's victory was their first in the league, bumping their league record up to 1-6 and their overall record up to 3-10. As for Chesaning, their win bumped their record up to 3-8.
Alma suffered a grim 6-0 defeat to Chesaning in their previous meeting back in April of 2025. Can the Panthers avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
