Morse and Calexico squared off in some playoff action on Tuesday, but Morse had to settle for second. They fell just short of the Bulldogs by a score of 3-2. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Bulldogs this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 2-0 back in February.
Morse actually scored more points across those five sets (105-99), but sadly they still had to settle for second. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-21, 18-25, 25-22, 16-25, 15-12.
Several Tigers players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Miguel Cobian, who had 21 kills, seven digs, three blocks, and three aces. Jhiovanni Lacosta was another key player, getting seven digs, two aces, and one block.
Calexico was led to victory by Gerardo Diaz and Jose Pablo Reyna. Diaz had 44 digs and three aces, while Reyna had 14 digs, five kills, and three aces. Diaz is on a roll when it comes to digs, as he's now had 17 or more in each of the last 17 games he's played.
Morse has traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 18-17 record this season. As for Calexico, their victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 23-6.
Morse does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Calexico, they will square off against Mater Dei Catholic at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Crusaders will roll in looking for their fourth straight win, something the Bulldogs surely won't give up without a fight.
