The Campbell County Cougars lost against the Oak Ridge Wildcats back in February of 2023, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Saturday. Campbell County was dealt a 71-44 defeat at the hands of Oak Ridge. While losing is never fun, Campbell County can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Tennessee basketball rankings (they are ranked 260th, while Oak Ridge is ranked 33rd).
Several Cougars players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Gavin Owens, who scored 12 points along with five rebounds. Luke Browning was another key contributor, scoring ten points along with nine rebounds and two steals.
Campbell County has been struggling recently, as they've lost three of their last four contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-12 record this season. As for Oak Ridge, the victory (which was their seventh in a row) raised their record to 16-5.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Campbell County will face off against Middlesboro at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. Oak Ridge's road trip will continue as they head out to face Karns at 7:30 p.m. on January 30th. Karns knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past seven matches -- so hopefully Oak Ridge likes a good challenge.
