Basketball Recap: Notre Dame Academy Snaps Six-Game Streak of Wins at Home

Notre Dame Academy entered their matchup against Southwest Atlanta Christian on Monday without any home losses, but there's a first time for everything. The Notre Dame Academy Irish Wolfhounds fell 66-54 to the Southwest Atlanta Christian Warriors. The Irish Wolfhounds have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Ki?Andrey Thomas and Geronimo Holmes certainly did their best on Monday to avoid the loss. Thomas went 6 of 14 en route to 24 points and four steals, while Holmes went 7 for 13 on his way to 20 points and six rebounds. Thomas has been hot for a while, having posted two or more steals the last 18 times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Charles Buford, who posted four points in addition to five assists and five boards.

Southwest Atlanta Christian was led to victory by Jabari Burleson and Chase Wiggins. Burleson went 7 of 11 on his way to 23 points along with six assists and six rebounds, while Wiggins dropped a double-double on 18 points and 12 boards. The dominant performance gave Burleson a new career-high in assists. LaVence Byrd was another key player, putting up eight points and six rebounds.

Notre Dame Academy's defeat ended a six-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 12-9. As for Southwest Atlanta Christian, they moved to 4-15 with that win, which also ended their ten-game losing streak.

Notre Dame Academy will have a little extra prep time after the loss as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on The Stonehaven School at 6:30 p.m. on January 30th. Notre Dame Academy is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 68.2 points per game this season. As for Southwest Atlanta Christian, they didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 71-40 defeat against Greenforest on the 24th.
