Baseball Recap: Mishawaka Picks Up Fourth Straight Win at Home

Mishawaka had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the ten-run drubbing they dealt Wawasee on Friday. The Cavemen were the clear victors by a 12-2 margin over the Warriors. Considering the Cavemen have won six contests by more than nine runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

Drew Ginter spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on four hits and racked up seven Ks.

On the hitting side, Brady Hoopingarner and Shawn Nowacki did most of the damage at the plate: Hoopingarner went 1-for-2 with four stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI, while Nowacki got on base in all four of his plate appearances with three stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. Those three runs gave Hoopingarner a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Braedyn Smith, who got on base in two of his four plate appearances with two runs.

Mishawaka always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .562. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Wawasee only posted an OBP of .280.

Mishawaka's win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 12-5. They've had to fight for that success though, as they only beat their opponents by an average of 3.25 runs across that stretch. As for Wawasee, they are on a 14-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-13.

Coming up, Mishawaka will venture away from home to square off against Morgan Township at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. The Cavemen's pitchers better be ready for this one: the Cherokees have averaged an impressive 6.2 runs per game this season. As for Wawasee, they will square off against Fort Wayne Concordia Lutheran at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday.
