Everything went Martinsburg's way against Hedgesville on Thursday as Martinsburg made off with a 49-24 win. Martinsburg has made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won six contests by 23 points or more this season.
Martinsburg's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Hayley Martin, who scored nine points along with two steals. Martin continues to roll, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. Serenity Ritchie was another key contributor, scoring 11 points.
Despite the loss, Hedgesville had strong showings from Kaylin Cantley, who scored eight points, and Gracie Brown, who scored seven points along with five rebounds and three blocks.
Perhaps unsurprisingly given the score, Hedgesville struggled to work together and finished the game with only an assist. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Martinsburg racked up 12 assists.
Martinsburg's victory was their eighth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 14-2. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 51.0 points per game. As for Hedgesville, they have not been sharp recently as the team's lost seven of their last eight matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-13 record this season.
Martinsburg will head out on the road to challenge Washington at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday. Hopefully Martinsburg focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up nine on Thursday. As for Hedgesville, they will be playing at home against Keyser at 12:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Keyser will roll in looking for their eighth straight win, something Hedgesville surely won't give up without a fight.
