The Woods Cross Wildcats are taking a road trip to take on the Clearfield Falcons at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Woods Cross has given up an average of 6.8 runs per game this season, so hopefully the team got some pitching drills in this week.
Woods Cross came up short against Green Canyon on Monday, falling 16-6.
Woods Cross saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Kaylee Moen, who scored a run while going 2-for-3. Kailah Feliciano also deserves some recognition as she brought in her first RBI of the season.
Meanwhile, Clearfield earned a 15-10 victory over Northridge on Tuesday.
Jenna Lloyd made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out nine batters over seven innings while giving up five earned (and five unearned) runs off seven hits. With that strong performance, she is now averaging an impressive 5.1 strikeouts per game. She was even better at the plate, scoring four runs while getting on base in four of her five plate appearances. The dominant performance gave her a new career-high in runs.
In other batting news, Alexandra Bingham was a standout: she scored three runs while getting on base in four of her five plate appearances. The team also got some help courtesy of Addyson Haddock, who scored three runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3.
Clearfield always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .575. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Northridge only posted an OBP of .389.
Clearfield now has a winning record of 4-3. As for Woods Cross, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-2.
Tuesday's match might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Woods Cross has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .496. However, it's not like Clearfield struggles in that department as they've averaged .533. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Woods Cross suffered a grim 8-1 defeat to Clearfield in their previous matchup back in April of 2024. Can Woods Cross avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
