II Section I recap September 10, 2013
Fans got a thrill when Gabe Losada and John Moser connected against Copper Canyon. The longest such play in II Section I this season, the connection resulted in 60 yards.
La Joya Community scaled the state rankings by moving to 133 from 168 this week, the biggest jump in the league. The Fighting Lobos were able to make move up by topping Youngker 36-0.
St. Mary's's dynamic duo of Losada and Jeremiah Sullivan proved to be unstoppable against the Aztecs, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Losada threw for 421 yards and 7 touchdowns and Sullivan had 169 yards receiving. Moser helped St. Mary's' passing attack out by catching 6 balls for 132 yards.
The Knights' dynamic duo of Losada and Sullivan proved tough for Copper Canyon to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week.
Tim Fryson was the best running back in the league this week. He ran for 218 yards on 14 carries as Sunnyslope bested RICK MEY's team. Joey Smith also contributed to the rushing game with 75 yards on the ground.
Sullivan was the best receiver in II Section I this week as Todd Williamson's team defeated the Aztecs.
Fryson was a force in the backfield as the Vikings defeated Browne.
He went 27-36 with 2 interceptions.
Losada put up the best numbers in passing as the Knights topped Copper Canyon.
5-foot-11 quarterback Losada of St. Mary's is the league leader in passing yards this season with 528. He has also thrown 7 touchdowns. The leading receiver in the league this season is James Cartwright. The Carl Hayden Community star has 13 catches for 204 yards.
Next week's game between the Knights and Tolleson will feature an aerial matchup as Losada tests his arm against Billy Wilson's defensive ability.
The Wolverines are in first place, while St. Mary's is in third place.
Fairfax took down Camelback 55-6 last week, the largest margin of any game. Kevin Webb ran for 153 yards in the win.
