Fans were treated to a battle of the Eagles on Tuesday. San Elizario had just enough and edged out Canutillo 6-5. The win made it back-to-back victories for San Elizario.
Abigail Rios made a splash while hitting and pitching. She struck out six batters over seven innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off seven hits. That's the fewest hits she has allowed since back in April of 2024. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Carylin Venegas, who scored two runs while going 2-for-3. Another player making a difference was Vivian Salcedo, who scored a run while going 1-for-3.
San Elizario was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .379. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .379 or higher in three consecutive games.
Meanwhile, Riverside was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They lost 23-13 to Las Cruces.
Julie Muniz was cooking despite her team's loss, firing off two home runs and one double while going 4-for-5. That's the most hits she has posted since back in March of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Cassandra Acosta, who scored three runs while going 3-for-4.
Riverside's defeat dropped their record down to 8-11. As for San Elizario, their victory bumped their record up to 5-15-1.
Friday's match will be a test for both teams' pitchers. San Elizario hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .380. However, it's not like Riverside struggles in that department as they've averaged .377. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
