Lexington is on a 14-game streak of home losses dating back to last season, and South Davidson a four-game streak of away losses. However, someone's due for a change in luck on Friday. The Lexington Yellowjackets will look to defend their home field against the South Davidson Wildcats at 7:00 p.m. Lexington has given up an average of 17.7 runs per game this season, so hopefully the team got some pitching drills in this week.
Lexington lost 15-4 to Parkland on Wednesday.
Jordon Summers put in work while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out ten batters over four innings while giving up just one earned (and seven unearned) runs off three hits. Summers was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 2-for-3.
In other batting news, Peja Ellis made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and scored two runs while going 2-for-2. Another player making a difference was Wyatt Griffith, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-3.
Meanwhile, South Davidson came into Tuesday's game having lost five straight, but that streak is now in the rearview. They came out on top against Lexington by a score of 11-6 on Tuesday.
Like Lexington, South Davidson also got a great game from a two-way player: Ronnie Benfield. Throwing, Benfield struck out ten batters over six innings while giving up just one earned (and five unearned) runs off seven hits (and not a single walk). Meanwhile, Dallas Mantz pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Furthermore, he didn't allow a single earned run, the first time he has blanked an opponent since back in April of 2024. At the plate, Benfield scored three runs and stole Two bases. while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances, while Mantz scored a run and stole Two bases. while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. Benfield also scored three runs, which is notable because South Davidson is 3-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 0-4 otherwise.
In other batting news, Zander Floyd was incredible, scoring two runs and stealing Five bases. while going 1-for-2. South Davidson is 3-1 when Floyd posts two or more runs, but 0-4 otherwise. Dalin Johnson was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-3.
Lexington's loss dropped their record down to 1-6. As for South Davidson, their victory was their first in the conference, bumping their conference record up to 1-2 and their overall record up to 3-5.
