Softball Recap: Geraldine Picks Up Second Consecutive Win

Geraldine won the last time they faced Valley Head and things went their way on Friday too. The Geraldine Bulldogs' pitchers stepped up to hand the Valley Head Tigers an 11-0 shutout. Considering the Bulldogs have won three contests by more than nine runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

Kennedy Cook and Shyla Thompson were a major factor no matter where they played. Throwing, Cook tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Meanwhile, Thompson struck out six batters over two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits (and not a single walk). She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two hits in three consecutive appearances. At bat, Cook scored two runs while going 2-for-3, while Thompson got on base in all three of her plate appearances with two RBI.

In other batting news, Callie Bearden was incredible, going 3-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI. Jaleece Edwards also deserves some recognition as she got her first hit of the season.

Geraldine always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .625. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Valley Head only posted an OBP of .333.

The victory made it two in a row for Geraldine and bumps their season record up to 3-1. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.0 runs on average over those games. As for Valley Head, they are on a five-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-2.

Geraldine has already played their next game, an 8-6 win against Gadsden City on the 7th. As for Valley Head, a feisty cat fight will be fought as Valley Head Tigers face off against White Plains Wildcats at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday. White Plains' pitching crew has only allowed 2.4 runs per game this season, so Valley Head's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
