Charlotte Latin hasn't had much luck against Covenant Day recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The Hawks will welcome the Lions at 4:30 p.m. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Charlotte Latin 1.9, Covenant Day 2.8) so any runs scored will be well earned.
Charlotte Latin fought the good fight in their extra-innings contest against Cannon on Thursday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Cougars by a score of 5-4. That's two games in a row now that the Hawks have lost by just one run.
Caroline Coble was cooking despite her team's loss, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-3. Irie King also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.
Meanwhile, Covenant Day had already won ten in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 10 runs) and they went ahead and made it 11 on Thursday. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Knights a 10-0 shutout. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last six times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.
Kaitlyn Allen was excellent, scoring a run and stealing two bases while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances. That's the most stolen bases she has posted since back in April of 2024. Charlotte Llaneza was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 1-for-2.
Covenant Day always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .600. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Charlotte Christian only posted an OBP of .222.
Covenant Day's victory was their sixth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 13-1-1. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.7 runs over those games. As for Charlotte Latin, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 9-2.
Tuesday's matchup will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Charlotte Latin hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .455. However, it's not like Covenant Day struggles in that department as they've averaged .381. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Charlotte Latin couldn't quite finish off Covenant Day in their previous matchup back in April of 2024 and fell 2-0. Will the Hawks have more luck at home instead of on the road? Come back here after the game to get an analysis of the match and other softball content.
