The Independence 76ers's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Monday after their 12th straight defeat. They took a hard 77-62 fall against Santa Teresa. While losing is never fun, Independence can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 951st, while the Saints are ranked 183rd).
When it comes to explaining why Independence lost, one person who can't be blamed is Joshua Villanueva. Despite the final result, he scored 14 points along with five steals. The team also got some help courtesy of William Chattmon, who scored eight points along with four steals.
Independence's loss was their ninth straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 3-17. As for Santa Teresa, the victory was the fifth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 15-5.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Independence will face off against the Longhorns at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Santa Teresa, they will head out on the road to face off against the Bruins at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Branham will be looking to extend their current 15-game winning streak.
