Nipmuc Regional extended their losing streak to four on Friday, dropping their season record down to 4-4 in the process. They fell 8-3 to the Medway Mustangs. On Medway's side, Johnny Farrell was a major factor no matter where he played. He struck out six batters over six innings while giving up three earned runs off four hits. Farrell has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in two of his four plate appearances with one stolen base and one RBI.
In other pitching news, Matt Olynciw looked comfortable as he tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits.
Back at the plate, Medway got a big performance out of Jack Heavner, who got on base in all three of his plate appearances with three stolen bases and two runs. Aidan Tkowski was another key player, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with three runs.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Nipmuc Regional will head out to take on Boston Latin Academy at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Warriors 4, the Dragons 1.7) so any runs scored will be well earned. As for Medway, they will venture away from home to challenge Westwood at 4:15 p.m. on Monday.
