The Chaminade Eagles will be taking part in a tournament against the Rio Mesa Spartans at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. Chaminade is currently enjoying a perfect season and no doubt wants to keep things rolling.
Chaminade proved they can win big last Thursday (they won by 13) and on Thursday they proved they can win the close ones too. They had just enough and edged out Notre Dame (SO) 7-6.
Finley Suppan spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and three unearned) runs on eight hits. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks any time she's pitched this season.
On the hitting side, Casey Glantz was incredible, going 2-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Siena Greenlinger, who went 3-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double.
They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Chaminade kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits in three consecutive matchups.
Oaks Christian hit Rio Mesa with a four-run seventh inning on Wednesday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Spartans took a 6-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Lions. The Spartans have struggled against the Lions recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive lost matchup.
Analia Lopez was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-3 with one double and one RBI. Sophia Roman also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.
Chaminade's victory bumped their record up to 7-0. As for Rio Mesa, their loss dropped their record down to 5-5-1.
Rio Mesa's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Chaminade has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .451.
