Softball Recap: Shepherd Takes Down Ranked Conrad

Shepherd faced Conrad in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Saturday. The Mustangs blew past the Girls Cowboys 15-0. The result was nothing new for the Mustangs, who have now won 14 matchups by eight runs or more so far this season.

Krista Dunn made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out nine batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit (and not a single walk). That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in May of 2025. She was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in all three of her plate appearances with three RBI.

In other batting news, Shepherd let Brooke Werth and Charity Dunn run wild. Werth went a perfect 2-for-2 with three RBI and two runs, while Dunn got on base in all three of her plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. Dunn is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was Charlotte White, who got on base in all three of her plate appearances with three runs.

Shepherd was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .467. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .345 or higher in eight consecutive contests.

Shepherd's win bumped their record up to 16-0. As for Conrad, the defeat snapped their winning streak at three games and leaves them with a 7-5 record.

Shepherd didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next game, a 22-11 victory against Hardin on the 11th. As for Conrad, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next matchup, a 12-2 win against Thompson Falls on the 15th.
