The South Bulldogs waltzed into their match on Friday with seven straight wins but they left with eight. In a tight game that could have gone either way, they made off with a 53-52 win over Walnut Ridge. That's another feather in the cap for South, who also won these teams' last head-to-head.
Maurice Mccall was a one-man wrecking crew for South as he scored 21 points. Lajames Washington was another key contributor, scoring 12 points.
When it comes to explaining why Walnut Ridge lost, one person who can't be blamed is Dominique Aekins. Despite the final result, he scored 22 points along with seven rebounds and two steals. Aekins continues to roll, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Deyaire Adams, who scored four points.
South pushed their record up to 14-3 with that victory, which was their sixth straight on the road. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 63.7 points per game. As for Walnut Ridge, their loss dropped their record down to 11-7.
South will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against the 76ers at 7:00 p.m. Independence is still on the hunt for that elusive first 'W'. As for Walnut Ridge, they will head out on the road to challenge the Cowboys at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. West will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Ohio Rankings (they are ranked 481st, while the Scots are ranked 162nd).
