The Trinity Prep Saints will venture away from home to square off against the Mount Dora Christian Academy Bulldogs at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Trinity Prep's pitching crew has only allowed 1.6 runs per game this season, so Mount Dora Christian Academy's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
Trinity Prep easily dispatched Lake Highland Prep on Thursday, but unfortunately both the margin and the ultimate result were a different story in this one. The Saints fell just short of Cornerstone Charter Academy by a score of 3-1 on Friday. The loss continues a trend for the Saints in their meetings with the Ducks: they've now lost seven in a row.
Trinity Prep saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Mckenna Hawley, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one double. That double marked the first that Hawley hit this season.
Meanwhile, Mount Dora Christian Academy came tearing into Friday's game with four straight wins , and they left with even more momentum. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Hurricanes a 10-0 shutout. Considering the Bulldogs have won nine matchups by more than six runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Mount Dora Christian Academy also got a great performance from Trinty DeVries as she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit over five innings pitched. DeVries has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Presley Miller was a standout: she scored two runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-3. She has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last four times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Lily Bryant, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI.
Mount Dora Christian Academy was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .381. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .333 or higher in three consecutive contests.
Mount Dora Christian Academy pushed their record up to 14-4 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.8 runs on average over those games. As for Trinity Prep, their defeat dropped their record down to 8-4.
Mount Dora Christian Academy's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Monday. Trinity Prep has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 12.7 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for Mount Dora Christian Academy, though, as they've been averaging only 4.1 strikeouts. Will Trinity Prep keep running through batters, or will the Bulldogs buck the trend?
Trinity Prep skirted past Mount Dora Christian Academy 2-1 in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Saints since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
