Mount Miguel extended their losing streak to four on Tuesday, dropping them down to 6-13. They came up short against the Monte Vista Monarchs, falling 14-7. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Monarchs this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 15-8 back in February.
Jasmine Bosley was cooking despite her team's loss, getting on base in four of her five plate appearances with three stolen bases and two runs. Another player making a difference was Leah Thomas, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
As for Monte Vista, they moved to 9-9 with that victory, which also ended their three-game losing streak. The result was nothing new for the Monarchs, who have now won eight games by seven runs or more so far this season.
On Monte Vista's side, Julieta Castillo Martinez made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She tossed four innings while giving up just one earned (and six unearned) runs off two hits. What's more, Castillo Martinez posted four strikeouts, the most she's had since back in March. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-4 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and one run.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Reena Del Rosario, who got on base in four of her five plate appearances with seven stolen bases, four runs, and three RBI. With that strong performance, she is now averaging an impressive 1.2 stolen bases per game. Olivia Mendham was another key player, going 3-for-4 with three stolen bases, two runs, and one double.
Coming up, Mount Miguel will be playing in front of their home fans against El Cajon Valley at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Braves have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 15.75 runs per game on average), something the Matadors will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Monte Vista, they will venture away from home to take on Crawford at 4:00 p.m. on Friday.
