The Kellis Cougars are taking a road trip to face off against the McClintock Chargers at 3:45 p.m. on Monday. Kellis has a tough task ahead: they'll enter the matchup with 11 straight defeats, while McClintock will come in with three straight wins.
Thursday just wasn't the day for Kellis' offense. They lost 19-0 to Centennial on Thursday.
Meanwhile, McClintock made easy work of Glendale on Friday and carried off a 15-2 victory. The Chargers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won eight contests by six runs or more this season.
Bradford McCurdy made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out nine batters over four innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. McCurdy was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Markus Lopez, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. He has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last four times he's played. Another player making a difference was Gabriel Reynoso, who went 1-for-3 with two runs, two RBI, and one double.
McClintock always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .526. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Glendale only posted an OBP of .273.
McClintock's win was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 15-8. Those road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.8 runs on average over those games. As for Kellis, their loss dropped their record down to 3-15.
Everything went Kellis' way against McClintock in their previous meeting back in April of 2018, as Kellis made off with a 10-0 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Cougars since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
