The Dayspring Christian Academy Eagles will head out on the road to challenge the Platte Valley Broncos at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Both come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Dayspring Christian Academy barely beat Holly the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. Dayspring Christian Academy put the hurt on Holly with a sharp 16-1 victory on Saturday.
Josiah Rodriguez made a big impact no matter where he played. He struck out eight batters over four innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits (and only one walk). Rodriguez was also big at the plate, scoring two runs while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Logan Vaniddekinge, who fired off two home runs, seven RBI, and three runs while going 2-for-3. Those two home runs gave him a new career-high. Gage Davis was another key player, scoring four runs while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.
Dayspring Christian Academy always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .686. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Holly only posted an OBP of .250.
Meanwhile, Platte Valley was able to grind out a solid win over Bennett on Saturday, taking the game 4-1.
Hazen Weber spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on three hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one earned run any time he's pitched this season.
On the hitting side, Logan Hackett was incredible, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-2. The team also got some help courtesy of Cooper Moffatt, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-3.
Platte Valley now has a winning record of 2-1. As for Dayspring Christian Academy, they now also have a winning record of 2-1.
Dayspring Christian Academy took their victory against Platte Valley in their previous meeting back in March of 2019 by a conclusive 17-5. Does Dayspring Christian Academy have another victory up their sleeve, or will Platte Valley turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
