Football Recap: Hebron Christian Skates Past East Jackson with Ease

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Hebron Christian). They breezed past the East Jackson Eagles to the tune of 55-10 on Friday. The final result isn't all that surprising considering the Lions' considerable advantage in MaxPreps' Georgia football rankings (they are ranked 26th, while the Eagles are ranked 159th).

Hebron Christian's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Devon Caldwell, who rushed for 140 yards and two TDs on only nine carries, and also picked up 35 receiving yards. Jarvis Mathurin was another key receiver, picking up 85 receiving yards and a pair of scores.

Hebron Christian didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Jai'Lil Goley and Dylan Hudson. Another thorn in East Jackson's side was Beau Bennett, who picked up two sacks and made nine total tackles.

Special teams also played a big role in the game for Hebron Christian, adding 19 points to the final score. The biggest highlight from special teams (and perhaps the team as a whole) came courtesy of Mathurin, who ran a kickoff back for a touchdown.

Hebron Christian pushed their record up to 4-1 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home dating back to last season. Those home wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 48.0 points over those games. As for East Jackson, their defeat was their first of the season and makes their record 5-1.

Hebron Christian didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, a 54-10 victory against Hart County on the 3rd. As for East Jackson, they have also already played their next matchup, a 34-7 loss against Franklin County on the 3rd.
