While it was all tied up 20-20 at halftime, The Mendenhall Tigers were not quite the Lawrence County Cougars''s equal in the second half on Friday. Mendenhall received a tough blow as they fell 44-27 to Lawrence County. Mendenhall's defeat continues a unfortunate trend for the squad, making it four in a row.
Lawrence County's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Ahmad Hardy, who rushed for 144 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 7.2 yards per carry. Hardy is on a roll when it comes to rushing yards, as he's now rushed for 100 or more in the last six games he's played. Markavion Owens also helped out as he racked up 134 rushing yards.
Mendenhall's loss was their third straight on the road, which dropped their overall record down to 5-6. That rough patch could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 17.3 points per game. As for Lawrence County, they now have a winning record of 6-5.
Mendenhall does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Lawrence County will square off against McComb at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. McComb has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 256 points over their last five matches.
