Brooklynn Cole made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out 16 over six innings pitched. With that strong performance, she is now averaging an impressive 5.9 strikeouts per game. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and one triple.
In other batting news, Graves County got a massive performance out of Ginger Martin, who went 3-for-4 with one triple, one stolen base, and two RBI. Riley Smith also deserves some recognition as she hit her first triple of the season.
Graves County was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .393. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Calloway County only posted a batting average of .053.
McCracken County hit Ballard Memorial with a four-run second inning on Monday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Bombers came up short against the Mustangs, falling 8-2. The Bombers have struggled against the Mustangs recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive lost matchup.
T Williams made the most of her time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one double. Another player making a difference was A Hargrove, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base and one run.
Ballard Memorial now has a losing record of 11-12. As for Graves County, their record is now 13-1-1.
Thursday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Graves County hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .352. However, it's not like Ballard Memorial struggles in that department as they've averaged .329. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Graves County beat Ballard Memorial 7-3 in their previous matchup back in March. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Eagles since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
