The Bishop Verot Vikings will be playing at home against the Estero Wildcats at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Both teams come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Bishop Verot can now show off seven landslide victories after their most recent matchup on Friday. They really took it to Cardinal Mooney for the full four quarters, racking up a 50-14 victory at home. Given Bishop Verot's advantage in MaxPreps' Florida football rankings (they are ranked 21st, while Cardinal Mooney is ranked 144th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Bishop Verot's success was spearheaded by the efforts of Deshon Jenkins jr, who rushed for 121 yards and three touchdowns, and Carter Smith, who rushed for 138 yards and three touchdowns on only 14 carries.
Meanwhile, Estero had already won six in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 19.3 points), and they went ahead and made it seven on Friday. They walked away with a 22-14 victory over Mariner. The score was all tied up 14-14 at the break, but Estero was the (much) better team in the second half.
Malik Allen was his usual excellent self, rushing for 161 yards and a touchdown. Allen is on a roll when it comes to rushing yards, as he's now rushed for 100 or more in the last four games he's played.
The win makes it two in a row for Bishop Verot and bumps their season record up to 8-1. They've been dominating during the games in that stretch too, as they've won by an average of 46.5 points. As for Estero, their win was their seventh straight on the road, which bumped their overall record up to 7-1.
Here's a few offensive stats to keep an eye on ahead of Friday's game: Bishop Verot has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 213.1 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Estero struggles in that department as they've been averaging 157.1 per game. It's looking like Friday's game might have some serious battles in the trenches.
Everything came up roses for Bishop Verot against Estero in their previous meeting back in October of 2022 as the squad secured a 57-10 victory. Does Bishop Verot have another victory up their sleeve, or will Estero turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
