STARKVILLE, Miss. – Senior
Katie Cook of
Rock Canyon (Highlands Ranch, Colo.) High School, has been named the MaxPreps High School Player of the Week by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association for games played through September 24, 2011.
Cook went 4-0 on the mound last week, including an 8 inning effort in a big win over the 6th ranked (5A) Ponderosa Mustangs. The senior's efforts on the week saw her overall ERA improve to 1.65. So far this season Cook has held opposing hitters to .223 on the year and has yielded only 9 extra base hits in 76.1 innings pitched. With the wins last week the Jaguars improve to 5-0 in conference, 10-3 overall.

To nominate a player for the award, the coach must enter his or her athlete's game stats into MaxPreps.com by Sunday evening to be eligible for that week's award. The NFCA High School Players of the Week, one for each high school region, will be announced by the Association on www.nfca.org every Monday during the spring season.
