The Spanish Springs Cougars had to endure a three-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They put the hurt on McQueen with a sharp 63-37 win on Tuesday. With that win, Spanish Springs brought their scoring average up to 50.1 points per game.
Spanish Springs was led to victory by Aaliyah Vance and Layni Noonkester. Vance scored 13 points along with three steals, while Noonkester scored 20 points along with five rebounds. The match was Noonkester's fifth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Brooklyn Doyle, who scored seven points.
McQueen's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Caitlin Hilson, who scored nine points. Hilson has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last four times she's played. Another player making a difference was LaQuaya Tillman, who scored eight points.
McQueen struggled to work together and finished the game with only four assists. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Spanish Springs racked up 16 assists.
Spanish Springs now has a winning record of 9-8. As for McQueen, they have been struggling recently, as they've lost seven of their last eight games, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-11 record this season.
Spanish Springs will look to defend their home court on Friday against Reed at 5:15 p.m. Reed will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Nevada Rankings (they are ranked 69th, while Spanish Springs is ranked 16th). As for McQueen, they will head out on the road to face off against Reno at 5:15 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Reno focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 45 on Saturday.
