4A Region 8 recap Sept. 26, 2012
Taylor Camp and Tyler Valdez provided fans with a highlight when they connected against Springville. The connection was good for 82 yards, the longest such play in 4A Region 8 this season.
Timpview was the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from third to first in the league. The Thunderbirds beat Timpanogos 38-13 earlier in the week.
Orem's dynamic duo of Camp and Valdez proved tough for the Red Devils to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Camp threw for 283 yards and two touchdowns and Valdez had 140 yards receiving. Nolan Gray helped Orem's passing attack out by catching six balls for 136 yards.
Jacob Hougaard was the most productive running back in the league this week. He ran for 98 yards on 10 carries as the Timberwolves defeated Springville. Morgan Dickerson also contributed to the rushing game with 22 yards on the ground.
Spencer Ika made the biggest impact on defense this week as Provo lost to Salem Hills. The junior grabbed one interception and grabbed one sack.
Orem's Camp and Gray have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading 4A Region 8 in both passing and receiving yards. Camp has thrown for 1804 yards this season, while Gray has 41 catches for 758 yards. Maple Mountain's Kj Hall leads the league in rushing yards with 563.
The marquee game in the league this week will be the clash between Tyler Anderson's team and Timpview. The Tigers enters the game ranked 21st in the state, while Cary Whittingham's team ranks sixth.
Entering into this week's contest against the Thunderbirds, Camp is short just 196 passing yards to break 2,000 on the season.
The Tigers were able to crack the Top 25 in the state rankings this week after beating Willy Child's team 45-18. Orem came in at 21 in the state poll after placing at number 32 last week.
