This season hasn't been kind to The Montgomery County Eagles, who are still winless after their ninth contest. They were beaten by Jenkins County 55-19 on Friday. While losing is never fun, Montgomery County can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Georgia football rankings (they are ranked 435th, while Jenkins County is ranked 155th).
Montgomery County's lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Marquis Martin, who picked up 135 receiving yards and a touchdown. Martin's longest reception was for an incredible 71 yards.
Montgomery County's loss was their eighth straight at home (dating back to last season), which dropped their overall record down to 0-9. Admittedly, the team was facing some tough opposition over that stretch, including 7-0 Telfair County and 10-2 McIntosh County Academy (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 68.7% over those games). As for Jenkins County, the win for they keeps them at an undefeated 8-0.
Coincidentally, the two teams will both be playing Emanuel County Institute the next time they take the field. Jenkins County will host Emanuel County Institute at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, while Montgomery County will head out to face them at 7:30 p.m. on November 3rd.
