La Jolla Country Day extended their losing streak to six on Thursday, dropping their season record down to 4-10 in the process. They took an 8-3 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Classical Academy Caimans. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Caimans this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 15-7 back in March.
Ayla Desai was huge no matter where she played even without the win. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 13 batters over six innings while giving up just one earned (and seven unearned) runs off four hits (and not a single walk). Those four hits allowed gave her a new career-low. She was also solid in the batter's box, earning two RBI and one run.
Desai wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Kathryn McGowen, who went 1-for-3 with one run and one RBI.
As for Classical Academy, they are on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 9-8 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 16.3 runs over those games.
Like La Jolla Country Day, Classical Academy also got a great game from a two-way player: Eleri Evans. On the mound, she pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Evans was also big at the plate, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one triple, two RBI, and one run.
In other batting news, Kalia Gonzalez was incredible, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Sophie Subka, who went 1-for-3 with one triple, one run, and one RBI.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. La Jolla Country Day will face off against Orange Glen at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Classical Academy, they will take on Canyon Crest Academy at 4:00 p.m. on May 2.
