The St. Johns Redskins will head out to take on the Joseph City Wildcats at 2:00 p.m. on Monday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (St. Johns has four straight victories, Joseph City has four straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
St. Johns is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. Everything went their way against Pinon on Friday as they made off with a 16-2 win. The team's explosion at the plate also rewarded the Redskins with their most commanding win of the season.
McKray Johnson was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because St. Johns is 2-1 when he allows at most one earned run, but 4-7 otherwise. Johnson was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs while going 1-for-4.

In other batting news, St. Johns let Dane Avila and T Platt run wild. Avila scored two runs while going 3-for-4, while Platt scored two runs and stole three bases while going 1-for-3. Avila has become a key player for St. Johns: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 3-8 otherwise. Gabe Castillo also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.
St. Johns always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .571. The last time their OBP was this high was back in April of 2024.
Meanwhile, Joseph City lost 10-4 to Holbrook on Thursday.
Kyan Larsen was cooking despite his team's loss, scoring a run and stealing three bases while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances.
St. Johns pushed their record up to 6-8 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.3 runs on average over those games. As for Joseph City, their loss dropped their record down to 2-7.
Joseph City's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Monday. St. Johns has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 6.9 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for Joseph City, though, as they've been averaging only 3.8 strikeouts. Will St. Johns keep running through batters, or will the Wildcats buck the trend?
Everything went St. Johns' way against Joseph City in their previous meeting back in February of 2024, as St. Johns made off with a 12-0 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Redskins since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
