Video: Highlights of Canisius forward Stafford Trueheart IIDownstate New York was buried by a blockbuster Nor'easter that dumped as much of 30 inches of snow in parts of New York City and its suburbs, making it the second-largest snowstorm ever.
Before the storm, which arrived at the crack of dawn Saturday and continued through dusk, there were some big Friday night games both in the metro area as well as upstate, which was not affected by the storm.

Rockland rivalry game goes down to the wire: Parts of Rockland County received up to 17 inches of snow, but before it arrived, the county's top two teams squared off and the game lived up to its hype.
North Rockland (Thiells)'s
Jose Diaz's 3-point attempt at the buzzer went around the rim and out and
Spring Valley held on for a dramatic 43-41 win at Spring Valley.
Spring Valley, the defending Section 1 Class A champion, was lifted by an outstanding defensive effort and unselfish play on offense. The Tigers did not have a double-figure scorer. Michael Maynes had a team-high eight points. Marc Dorsainvil had 12 rebounds to go along with seven points. Zachary Grant had seven points and six rebounds.
In the teams' first regular-season meeting, senior-laden North Rockland (11-3) won on its homecourt. One of those seniors, guard
Michael Arias, had a game-high 14 points.
Trueheart comes up big for Canisius: In a much-awaited Buffalo-area game, senior big man

Reidell, just a junior, reaches 1,000: No matter what sport he plays,
Danny Reidell gets his points across. A prolific scorer in both soccer and basketball, the guard at Section 2's
Northville reached the career 1,000-point mark. It came in a 29-point effort in a 75-51 win against Johnsburg.
It is an especially noteworthy achievement considering Reidell is a junior. And there will be more points delivered for Northville from Reidell after Danny's graduation in 2017. His brother,
Nate Reidell, a freshman guard, was Northville's second-leading scorer against Johnsburg with 16 points.

Senior guard
John Sanseverino led four double-digit scorers with 20 points for Manhasset.
