Javier Ortiz made a big impact no matter where he played. He didn't allow a single earned run while striking out eight over 4.2 innings pitched. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Fort Lupton is 3-1 when he allows at most one earned run, but 1-4 otherwise. Ortiz was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with four runs, four RBI, and two doubles. Those four RBI gave him a new career-high.
In other batting news, Andrew Dreiling was a standout: he went a perfect 3-for-3 with three stolen bases, four RBI, and two runs. Those four RBI gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Josiah Gonzales, who scored two runs and stole three bases while getting on base in three of his five plate appearances.
Fort Lupton was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .387. They are 2-1 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Meanwhile, after soaring to 14 runs the game before, Estes Park was a bit more limited in their game last Friday. They came up short against Platte Valley, falling 10-2. The Bobcats haven't had much luck with the Broncos recently, as the team has come up short the last four times they've met.
Fort Lupton's victory bumped their record up to 4-5. As for Estes Park, they now have a losing record of 1-2.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Tuesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Fort Lupton has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 8.4 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Estes Park struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 8 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Fort Lupton couldn't quite get it done against Estes Park in their previous meeting back in April of 2024 as they fell 8-4. Will the Bluedevils have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the match for a full breakdown of the game, commentary, and other baseball content.
