Steamboat Springs is 1-9 against Summit since May of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Sailors will look to defend their home field against the Tigers at 2:00 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Steamboat Springs took a loss when they played away from home on Saturday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Saturday. They were the clear victors by a 15-6 margin over Battle Mountain. The Sailors not only won on Saturday, but they posted their biggest win since April 2nd (when they won 20-0).
Damien Dobson made a splash while hitting and pitching. He didn't allow a single earned run over four innings pitched. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Steamboat Springs is 4-1 when he allows at most one earned run, but 7-8 otherwise. Dobson was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of his five plate appearances with two runs.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Tanner Cobb, who went 3-for-4 with three runs, three doubles, and three RBI. Those three runs gave him a new career-high. Rickey Hernandez was another key player, going 3-for-4 with two runs and one triple.
Steamboat Springs always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .581. They are 6-1 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
Meanwhile, Summit came tearing into Monday's contest with three straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 11.3 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They put the hurt on the Panthers with a sharp 14-1 victory.
Hogan Tobias was incredible, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one double. The team also got some help courtesy of Lucas Comcowich, who went 1-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.
Summit pushed their record up to 15-5 with the win, which was their fourth straight on the road. The road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 17.8 runs over those games. As for Steamboat Springs, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-9 record this season.
Friday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Steamboat Springs hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .358. However, it's not like Summit struggles in that department as they've averaged .357. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Steamboat Springs might still be hurting after the 10-0 loss they got from Summit in their previous matchup back in May of 2024. Can the Sailors avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
