Basketball Recap: Nick Wilfong's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Port Allegany over Cameron County

Port Allegany lost against Cameron County back in February of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Monday. The Port Allegany Gators fell to the Cameron County Raiders 63-59. While losing is never fun, the Gators can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Pennsylvania basketball rankings (they are ranked 385th, while the Raiders are ranked 190th).

Port Allegany's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Nick Wilfong, who went 6 of 10 on his way to 17 points in addition to five assists and five rebounds. Wilfong has been hot recently, having also posted two or more steals the last three times he's played. Another player making a difference was Isac Amell, who went 7 for 12 on his way to 16 points and seven rebounds.

Port Allegany's loss was their first in the conference, dropping their conference record down to 3-1 and their overall record down to 4-3. As for Cameron County, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 5-1.

Port Allegany didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 52-18 win against Galeton on the 8th. As for Cameron County, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 70-36 victory against Northern Potter on the 8th.
