It's hard to turn regular season success into postseason wins, a fact the Animas Panthers can now relate to. They took a serious blow against Roy/Mosquero on Saturday, falling 57-6. The low total for Animas limited their streak of high-flying scores to three in a row.
Kohan Evans threw for 69 yards and a touchdown, and also threw for 69 yards and a touchdown. Diego Renteria was his top target, picking up 34 receiving yards.
Roy/Mosquero found their leader in underclassman Brycen Barnes , who rushed for 186 yards and five touchdowns on only 13 carries. Barnes is on a roll when it comes to rushing touchdowns, as he's now punched in two or more in the last four games he's played. Jackson Fudge was in the mix as well, providing Roy/Mosquero with three touchdowns.
Animas bumped their record down to 3-6 with that defeat, which was their sixth straight on the road dating back to last season. Admittedly, the team was facing some tough opposition over that stretch, including 8-3 Grady and 8-3 Elida (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 72.1% over those games). As for Roy/Mosquero, the win for they keeps them at an undefeated 11-0.
Animas does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Roy/Mosquero will be playing in front of their home fans against Grady at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Grady is also coming in off of a big victory, so somebody is in for a big reversal of fortune.
