Broadwater Academy hasn't had much luck against Isle of Wight Academy recently, but that could start to change on Monday. Eli Destro was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run while striking out 11 over five innings pitched. Those 11 strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one home run, two stolen bases, and five RBI. He has become a key player for Broadwater Academy: the team is 3-0-1 when he posts at least two stolen bases, but 2-4 otherwise.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Jacob Seltzer, who scored three runs and stole three bases while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances. Bennit Custis was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing four bases while going 2-for-3.
Broadwater Academy was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .375. They are undefeated (3-0) when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Meanwhile, Isle of Wight Academy came up short against Brunswick Academy on Friday and fell 7-4.
Wyatt King was cooking despite his team's loss, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-3. He also put up two RBI, which were his first of the season.
Broadwater Academy pushed their record up to 5-4-1 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.7 runs over those games. As for Isle of Wight Academy, their loss dropped their record down to 3-3.
