The Wesley Chapel Wildcats suffered their biggest defeat yet this season on Saturday. They took a serious blow against Academy of the Holy Names, falling 58-23. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Wesley Chapel has scored all season.
When it comes to explaining why Wesley Chapel lost, one person who can't be blamed is Dayla Christopher. Despite the final result, she scored 12 points along with eight rebounds. Another player making a difference was Isabella Stewart, who scored five points.
Perhaps unsurprisingly given the score, Wesley Chapel struggled to work together and finished the game with only three assists. That's the fewest assists they've managed all season.
Academy of the Holy Names got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Sam Castro out in front who scored eight points along with six rebounds and five assists. The team also got some help courtesy of Lucy Morey, who scored seven points along with seven steals.
This is the second loss in a row for Wesley Chapel and nudges their season record down to 10-7. As for Academy of the Holy Names, their victory bumped their record up to 11-6.
Wesley Chapel will be playing at home against Cypress Creek at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. Cypress Creek will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Florida Rankings (they are ranked 385th, while Wesley Chapel is ranked 168th). As for Academy of the Holy Names, they will head out on the road to challenge River Ridge at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. River Ridge will be looking to keep their nine-game home win streak alive.
