Softball Recap: Northeastern Gets the Win

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Fairbanks, Northeastern was happy to have turned things around on Friday. They never let the Catholic Central Irish get on the board and left with a 12-0 win. The victory continues a trend for the Jets in their matchups with the Irish: they've now won six in a row.

Kylee Williams was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit while striking out eight over five innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one walk in four consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with one triple and two RBI.

In other batting news, Laney Phillips and Sophia Shingler did most of the damage at the plate: Phillips went a perfect 2-for-2 with three runs, one triple, and one stolen base, while Shingler went a perfect 2-for-2 with three runs, one triple, and one stolen base. What's more, Phillips posted two RBI, the most she's had since back in March. Another player making a difference was Ashlynn Bowser, who went 1-for-2 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.

Northeastern was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .409. They are 4-1 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

Northeastern's win bumped their record up to 8-9. As for Catholic Central, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-15.

Looking ahead, Northeastern will be playing in front of their home fans against Washington at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. The Blue Lions have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 11.89 runs per game on average), something the Jets will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Catholic Central, they will host Cedarville at 5:00 p.m. on Monday.
