Escondido moved up to 261 from 324 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in Avocado - East. The Cougars climbed the ranks as a result of a 31-27 win over Vista.
Escondido and the Panthers played the most hotly contested game in the league this week, with Escondido eventually emerging with a 31-27 victory.
Daviante Sayles was the most productive running back in the league this week. In 25 carries, he ran for 160 yards as Rancho Buena Vista lost to El Camino.
Steve Bridges's team's Mitch Bartram and JC Hernandez have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading Avocado - East in both passing and receiving yards. Bartram has thrown for 188 yards this season, while Hernandez, a 5-foot-9 receiver, has five catches for 114 yards. The Longhorns' Sayles leads the league in rushing yards with 1164.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when the Cougars take on Mission Hills. At the moment, Escondido is in third, while the Grizzlies are in second.
The top two defenses in the league will face off this season when Fallbrook takes on San Pasqual. The Warriors have allowed 146 points this season, while the Golden Eagles have given up 74. Fallbrook allowed 24 points last week as it fell to Carlsbad.
The Cougars led the league in scoring this week after putting up 31 points on Vista.
