Softball Recap: Midland Wins Going Away Against Barton

Midland's game on Tuesday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Thursday. They blew past the Barton Bears 20-4. The result was nothing new for the Mustangs, who have now won eight matchups by 11 runs or more so far this season.

Madelyn Jefford was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out nine batters over 3.2 innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run but no hits. Those nine strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was even better at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with four runs, two stolen bases, and two doubles.

In other batting news, Cami Carpenter was a standout: she went 2-for-3 with four runs, four RBI, and two doubles. Those four runs gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Carley Piety, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and two doubles.

Midland is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five games. That's provided a massive bump to their 10-13 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 17.4 runs over those games. As for Barton, they dropped their record down to 4-9 with the defeat, which was their fifth straight on the road.

Midland does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Barton, they will challenge England at 4:30 p.m. on Friday.
