The North Iberville Bears will head out to square off against the Port Allen Pelicans at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. The teams are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: North Iberville has struggled recently with 12 losses in a row, while Port Allen will arrive with five straight wins.
North Iberville lost 16-5 to White Castle on Tuesday.
Anthony Russo made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and scored a run and stole four bases while going 1-for-1. Colston Nereaux also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.
Meanwhile, Port Allen got the win against Slaughter Community Charter on Saturday by a conclusive 11-1. Considering the Pelicans have won 19 matchups by more than seven runs this season, Saturday's blowout was nothing new.
Joseph Jourdan made a big impact no matter where he played. He didn't allow a single earned run over six innings pitched. Jourdan was also big at the plate, scoring two runs while going 1-for-3.
In other batting news, Hunter Bodin was incredible, scoring three runs and stealing two bases while going 1-for-3. Port Allen is undefeated when Bodin posts two or more runs, but 7-9 otherwise. Kaden Wolf was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 1-for-2.
Port Allen pushed their record up to 20-9 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.7 runs on average over those games. As for North Iberville, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-12-1.
Monday's game might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. North Iberville has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .442. However, it's not like Port Allen struggles in that department as they've averaged .523. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
North Iberville suffered a grim 24-3 defeat to Port Allen when the teams last played last Wednesday. Can the Bears avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
